到了八十年代中期，林志美专注歌唱和为她的唱片作监制而减少作曲，
推出的唱片不再像起初的三张般取得个人创作、本地创作、改编歌曲的平衡。
同时，香港乐坛步入青春偶像派大竞赛，女歌手方面，梅艳芳、林忆莲、陈慧娴、叶倩文等像要开世界大战。
初听林志美的歌是“什么是缘份”，“偶遇”，记得当时“偶遇”这首歌获得很多奖项，
后来在电台听了“雨夜钢琴”及后来出的“洒脱”都是林振强的词，
“雨夜钢琴”这首歌是在钢琴面前及悠悠的琴声下道出对恋人的痴恋，
歌词及编曲都可算得上80年代的杰作，
这张唱片里很多歌都是全新混音的，这也在当时来讲是大胆之作。
